COMMUNITY INITIATIVE: THe Emergency ID CARD

Picture

Why?

Scenario 1: My friend's husband recently collapsed at a shopping center. She wasn't with him as she was walking around shopping by herself. People tried to help him but they didn't know where to start as he was unconscious. His phone was locked so they couldn't access it but they managed to find his IC in his wallet so they knew who he was and where he resided BUT at that crucial moment, they didn't know WHO to contact. Luckily, my friend had finished walking around and came looking for him. She saw him laying on the ground and quickly ran to his side and proceeded to get the necessary medical assistance he needed. He's very lucky to be alive today.

Scenario 2: Another friend travelled alone overseas and and collapsed. While she was able to give the names of her emergency contacts and phone password before she became unconscious, her family received so many messages from different parties that they were wondering if they were receiving scam messages. Thankfully, they were able to verify that it wasn't a scam and quickly flew to be with her.

The above scenarios are not uncommon and this is how this community initiative was born.

Why is the Emergency ID Card IMPORTANT?

  1. Immediate access to critical information: In the event of an emergency, medical professionals need to quickly access important information such as allergies, medication, and medical history. Having an emergency contact card on hand can provide immediate access to this information, which could be critical in a life-threatening situation.
  2. Communication with loved ones: If someone is unable to communicate due to injury or illness, an emergency contact card can help medical professionals quickly contact their loved ones to inform them of the situation and provide updates on their condition.
  3. Peace of mind: Knowing that you have an emergency contact card with important information readily available can provide peace of mind, especially if you have a medical condition that may require immediate attention.
  4. Traveling: When traveling, it's important to have an emergency contact card with you in case of unexpected events such as accidents, injuries, or illness. This can be especially important if you are traveling alone or to a foreign country.
  5. Quick identification: An emergency contact card can also provide quick identification, which can be especially important if someone is unconscious or unable to speak. This can help medical professionals quickly identify the person and access their medical history and emergency contact information.
